Citizens Climate Network Announced At 6Sight Conference Features User-supplied Images Depicting Environmental Impact of Global Warming
Web site will serve as a repository for user-supplied digital video and still images
Monterey, Calif. October 25 – At the 6Sight® Future of Imaging conference (www.6sight.com) today, Citizens Climate Network (CCN) announced their intent to launch a web site/service that will allow average people worldwide to upload still and video images from their digital cameras and camera phones, showing local effects of global warming. CCN will be a rapidly-growing, visual body of evidence that global warming is a phenomenon with grave consequences, necessitating worldwide attention and action.
The Movie “An Inconvenient Truth” has been the best tool yet developed to drive grassroots mobilization against global warming -- largely through its highly effective use of visuals. Its influence has already started to spawn organizations and initiatives like CCN that will amplify the movie's impact for years, and hopefully generations, to come.
The concept of the Citizen Climate Network is to do so via a web-based resource. “CCN will provide a showcase and a structure to present the visual contributions of a global network of grassroots journalists, visually documenting evidence of the effects of climate change in their communities, and local initiatives to mitigate them,” said Alexis Gerard, President of Future Image and CCN’s founder and chairman. “If CCN had been in place when hurricane Katrina hit, the tens of millions of people who viewed amateur images of the storm on Webshots, to cite just one example, could have been educated and mobilized rather than just shocked.”
CCN is being officially announced today by its president, David Szetela, at the 6Sight® Future of Imaging conference in Monterey, California. His presentation can be viewed at the event’s blog site, www.LiveFrom6Sight.com.
In a related keynote address earlier in the day, Martin Green, senior vice president, CNET Networks, presented the findings in a first-of-its-kind study conducted jointly by Future Image and Webshots to reveal the motivations and rewards for the most traffic-driving photo content contributors.
6Sight® brings together imaging and technology industry executives and members of the media to examine “What happens when a billion people worldwide become equipped with the tools of visual communication?” 6Sight is hosted by Future Image Inc., the leading “think tank” on the future of imaging, and co-hosted by the two leading industry organizations in imaging -- the International Imaging Industry Association (I3A) and the Photo Marketing Association International (PMAI).
CCN’s initial advisory board members are:
- Piers Bearne, founder and Managing Director of Rock Media, part of the Imago Group
- Tony Bove, musician
- Alex Boyesen, CEO of Digital Mixes UK
- Raines Cohen, Certified Senior Cohousing facilitator and columnist for Communities Magazine.
- Alexis Gerard, founder and CEO of Future Image Inc.
- Heather Killen, independent investor and company director, with interests in information technology and green energy, and former Yahoo! VP of International
- David Krathwohl, Senior Vice President of Strategic Development for WCC Services
- Magnus Melander, Venture Partner at BrainHeart Capital
- Wils Murphy, free-lance photographer
- Kim Northrop, artist and consultant
- Denise Sangster, founder of Global Touch, Inc.
- David Szetela, president and CEO of Clix Marketing; Chief Marketing Officer of CyberArts Licensing
- Lisa Tanner, Coordinator for the Louisville/Jefferson County Kentucky Democratic Party
- Byron Wagner, CEO of MetaWire
- Ken Wasch, founder and president of the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA)
- Eric Zarakov, Vice President of Marketing for FotoNation

WOW, what a great conference!! Excellent content, excellent speakers, excellent facilities and excellent food. And did I mention I made some super contacts too.
Brent Bowyer, President, Independent Photo Imagers
You have managed to assemble a very high calibre set of attendees and we had ample time to network, which was fantastic.
Simon East, CEO, ShoZu
I came here to learn about the market and to evaluate the opportunity for Bellamax. The Summit exceeded my expectations.
Val Carpenter, CMO, Bellamax
We found the show to be informative and insightful in terms of content and extremely valuable in terms of connections and networking opportunities. Our only regret was that we were not able to attend the sessions on Friday and to continue meeting with other attendees.
Kris Ramanathan, Co-CEO, netomat, Inc.
Congrats to you and your team for providing a really awesome event. Your planning, gracious accommodations and flawless execution was appreciated! In addition we achieved all the goals (and then some) that we set out from Sprint's perspective. Thank you for making the venue intimate and allow us real time to discuss and network as we needed.
Mary-Nick Baustert, Sprint
The Summit provided a comfortable environment in which to network with leaders in the industry, and an open atmosphere to exchange information.
Larry Lesley, Sr. VP, Consumer Imaging & Printing, Hewlett-Packard
Thank you for a very good show on all aspects. I met with very high quality and very relevant people, and you've managed to keep a casual and productive spirit among everybody, which is invaluable. Please count us in for the next edition.
Benoit Bergeret CEO, RealEyes3D
