Stellar Line-up of Speakers for 6Sight
Future of Imaging Conference
Focus on the future of digital imaging
devices and visual communications
content
SAN MATEO, CA – September 14, 2006 –
Pervasive, web-connected imaging and the
explosion of user-generated visual
content are transforming how we
communicate with each other in our
personal, work, and community lives. In
the past four years the number of
cameras in people’s hands worldwide has
increased by 600%. It will double again
over the next five years. Total number
of analog and digital cameras sold in
2000: 85 Million units. Projected 2008
sales: One Billion units.
On
October 24 and 25, the 6Sight™ Future of
Imaging conference will ask the
question: What happens when a billion
people worldwide become equipped with
the tools of visual communication? The
two-day program (www.6sight.com/program.html)
will provide cutting-edge answers
through sessions emphasizing innovative
use cases, breakthrough digital imaging
technologies, and creativity. The
presenters are an all-star lineup of
thought leaders in digital imaging
software and hardware,
telecommunications, and information
processing technology. They include
scientists, marketers, futurists,
artists, educators, high-volume users,
and members of the media.
One group of sessions will focus
primarily on examining the future of
devices used to capture, display and
manage digital images including camera
phones, digital cameras, imaging
software and more. Among the topics
covered:
- You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet.
Future Image President Alexis Gerard and
Dr. John Meyer, head of Digital Imaging
and Printing research at HP Labs take an
interactive "tour" of the future of
imaging, discussing and demonstrating a
range of advanced research directions
and projects.
- The Future of the Lens.
Miniaturized, rugged, low-cost,
low-power, high-performance technologies
such as liquid lenses, specialized
software-enhanced optics and more will
be demonstrated and discussed.
- Smart Pictures, Smart Devices.
Integrating image capture and display
with the entertainment or productivity
to deliver superior customer value.
- Eyeballs Everywhere. Should we
expect that, save for the privacy of our
own home, our every action is recorded
to video -- and that video is stored,
indexed and processed with facial
recognition -- creating a permanent
searchable record of where everyone is
or was at any time? Is this
technologically feasible? What about
politically possible, and/or morally
desirable?
Another group of sessions will focus
primarily on the explosion of
user-generated visual communications
content which is transforming people’s
lives in the personal, work and
community spheres. According to
Nielsen//NetRatings, “user-generated
content sites, platforms for photo
sharing, video sharing and blogging,
comprised five out of the top 10 fastest
growing Web brands in July 2006.” Topics
covered will include:
- Farewell Information - It's a
Media Age. Forecaster, strategist and
author Paul Saffo will discuss how the
shift to an economy of creators is
erasing the distinction between product
and service, and potentially redefining
our shared culture.
- Content is Still King. CNET
Networks Senior Vice President Martin
Green will unveil the results of a joint
Webshots.com/Future Image research
project investigating the profiles of
the content creators who are driving the
explosive audience growth of online
picture and video sharing.
- Monetizing Pictures in the 21st
Century. Innovative companies are
developing new business models to serve
content creators and content consumers,
and make money in the process. This
session shines the spotlight on their
successes, and examines how they work.
- The Global Video Revolution. At
last, and all of a sudden, consumer
video has become mainstream –and it’s in
the form of the “clip.”

WOW, what a great conference!! Excellent content, excellent speakers, excellent facilities and excellent food. And did I mention I made some super contacts too.
Brent Bowyer, President, Independent Photo Imagers
You have managed to assemble a very high calibre set of attendees and we had ample time to network, which was fantastic.
Simon East, CEO, ShoZu
I came here to learn about the market and to evaluate the opportunity for Bellamax. The Summit exceeded my expectations.
Val Carpenter, CMO, Bellamax
We found the show to be informative and insightful in terms of content and extremely valuable in terms of connections and networking opportunities. Our only regret was that we were not able to attend the sessions on Friday and to continue meeting with other attendees.
Kris Ramanathan, Co-CEO, netomat, Inc.
Congrats to you and your team for providing a really awesome event. Your planning, gracious accommodations and flawless execution was appreciated! In addition we achieved all the goals (and then some) that we set out from Sprint's perspective. Thank you for making the venue intimate and allow us real time to discuss and network as we needed.
Mary-Nick Baustert, Sprint
The Summit provided a comfortable environment in which to network with leaders in the industry, and an open atmosphere to exchange information.
Larry Lesley, Sr. VP, Consumer Imaging & Printing, Hewlett-Packard
Thank you for a very good show on all aspects. I met with very high quality and very relevant people, and you've managed to keep a casual and productive spirit among everybody, which is invaluable. Please count us in for the next edition.
